DIY Laundry Detergent Kits are Ready
Updated: 2 days ago
BFI's DIY Laundry Detergent Kits are available for pickup, first come first serve, for any Fox Valley/Oshkosh resident immigrant. Use this DIY Laundry Kit Request form to reserve. We'll get back to you if you were one of the first 20 to respond!
The DIY Liquid Laundry Detergent Kit project began just as COVID hit our community in 2020. Using in-kind and monetary donations, 20 kits were assembled. Each kit makes enough for about 1,700 loads of laundry and contains:
Instructions (in English, Swahili, Karen, and Arabic)
5 gallon bucket with cover
Long handled wooden spoon
2-3 bars of Fels Naptha soap
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
Recycled & rinsed liquid laundry detergent bottle
The process is simple. The most difficult part of the process is grating the bar of Fels Naptha soap. The cost of replacing the ingredients for the detergent is about $1 for Fels Naptha, $5 for a box of Super Washing Soda, and $9 for a box of Borax, significantly cheaper and eco-friendly than buying bottled detergent.
Thank you to all of the donors, translators, BFI volunteers & staff for your contributions that make this project possible. Thank you to Tirtha Gurung, Zuhan (Eric) Li, & Kayla Johnson for the instruction video they created on the UW-FoxValley campus in a makeshift kitchen :-)
